Timothy J. Hillen


Superintendent of SCA

Timothy J. Hillen has invested the last quarter of a century serving as the head of some of America's finest Christian schools. Tim's career began as a teacher in suburban Detroit in 1971. His ten-year teaching experience was in the area of secondary social studies, including American history, government, psychology, and sociology. In addition to teaching, he was involved in sponsoring and coaching numerous athletic activities, including tennis, track, basketball, and cross-country. After a decade of high school teaching, Tim began his career as an educational administrator. He assumed the position of Assistant Principal at Greenfield High School in Wisconsin from 1981-1983.

Tim HillenIn 1983, Tim accepted an invitation from Macomb Christian School, a newly-formed Christian school in Detroit's northern suburbs, to become its first Administrator. After a five-year stint at Macomb Christian School, Tim was named the Administrator of Heritage Christian School in Indianapolis. After eight successful years at Heritage, Tim accepted a new challenge by assuming the presidency of Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, Tennessee. Just prior to being named Scottsdale Christian's Superintendent, Tim spent four years serving as the Headmaster of Whitfield Academy in Atlanta.

In Tim's Christian administrative career, he has been highly regarded as a Christian school visionary who puts ideas into action. Consequently, Tim's schools have been characterized by significant growth (student enrollment and facilities), superb organization, and excellence in Christian school education. He has initiated millions of dollars of school improvements and campus developments. Tim serves as a frequent contributor to Christian school periodicals and as a participating speaker at various Christian school functions.

Tim and his wife, Marty, have been married for 36 years. Marty, an elementary school teacher for most of their married life has spent the last several years assisting Christian schools as an admissions and testing specialist. Marty is a graduate of Taylor University and Ball State University. The Hillen's have two children, Cheryl (31) and Mark (29). Cheryl, a graduate of Liberty University and Johns Hopkins University, is a former high school English teacher and guidance counselor. Cheryl's husband, Nicholas, also a former Christian high school teacher, is currently enrolled in the doctoral program (theology) at Wheaton College. Mark, a grad of the US Military Academy at West Point, has recently concluded his active duty responsibilities as a Captain in the United States Army. Mark is currently enrolled in Arizona State University's MBA program.

Tim received a B.S. Degree in Social Sciences from Taylor University, a M.A. in Educational Administration from Eastern Michigan University, and an Ed. Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.
